Copyright Crash Course

Welcome to Beloit College's copyright research guide! This guide contains resources to help answer your copyright questions. 

Here's a breakdown of the guide's pages:

  • Copyright 101: has background information on copyright, ownership, and ideas for getting permission to use copyrighted material. 
  • Fair Use: Describes fair use and shares resources for figuring out if your intended use is fair use.
  • Creative Commons (CC): Explains how to publish your own work under a creative commons license as well as find resources that are available under a CC license. 
  • Copyright Claims Board (CASE Act): The CASE Act allows the US Copyright Office to handle small copyright claims through the Copyright Claims Board. This page contains information and resources about the CASE Act. 
  • TEACH Act: In 2002, this act expanded the scope of online educators' rights to align more closely with those in a face-to-face classroom. Here you can find background information on the ACT, resources, and a checklist.
