Library Instruction

About Information Literacy Instruction:

Librarians as teachers inspire students to question, analyze, and explore the information they encounter both inside and outside the classroom. An information literate student has the tools to effectively navigate the ever-expanding universe of information.

Our goal while teaching is to inspire students to inquire. We do this through emphasizing critical thinking, our role as information creators and consumers, as well as empowering students to view themselves as scholars.

Instruction Sessions:

These sessions are developed with faculty to meet the specific needs for a particular course. Instruction can vary from the basics to advanced, depending on student needs.

Instruction sessions are most effective when they are tied to a specific assignment. This allows the students to immediately put what they've learned into practice. We would be happy to provide multiple sessions for your course.

These sessions are held during your class time and, ideally, in your classroom. If you would prefer to bring your class to the library for instruction, we can certainly accommodate.

Past instruction sessions have included:

  • Narrowing topics & identifying keywords
  • Selecting and using resources
  • Analyzing sources
  • Academic Integrity
  • Citation Management

Email Haley (lotth@beloit.edu) or Kelly (leahykm@beloit.edu) to request an instruction session.
